To make your Mondays a little brighter, we’ll be bringing you one song or music video to check out, every week.
When Tessa Violet showed interest in getting herself some golden vampire fangs back in March, no one read much into it. Fans only showed support, and then everyone went about their day. Little did they know that, a month later, they’d be watching the singer show off those same fangs as she executes a perfect pitch in a brand new Twilight-inspired music video.
Due to safety measures everywhere around the world, the Chicago-born singer-songwriter didn’t get a chance to take her 2019 debut album on the road. What she did instead this past year is find creative ways to shed a light on different tracks from Bad Ideas, be it through adding in collaborations with artists, trying to create TikTok trends or releasing well thought out music videos. Seeing as it’s the last single she’s promoting for this record, Games had to have it all: a featuring with LA-based trio lovelytheband (Mitchy Collins’ vocals give the song an edgier sound that fits perfectly with the angsty lyrics), a TikTok challenge, and an homage to a staple in popular culture.
Whether you love it or can’t even begin to stand it, the Twilight saga (2008-2012) seems to have an unwavering hold on people. And it’s not just about the vampires. Still adored by some even in 2021 (no matter the reasons, there’s no judging here), the movies seem to provide for most a never-ending source of inspiration for memes and jokes of all sorts. So it’s no surprise that self-proclaimed “tiktok addict” and all-around social media active user Tessa Violet would want to have her go at it.
Despite the sad (and serious) nature of the song’s theme, she manages to beautifully recreate the iconic baseball scene (originally set to Muse’s Supermassive Black Hole) with her own humorous spin on it, and a surprise appearance by one of the movie’s cast members, Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen). A must-watch!
Tessa Violet will be bringing to life her debut album in a pre-recorded special event with live performances. Bad Ideas: The Experience will only be live-streamed three times (for different timezones) on May 13th.
